Samantha Skey is Chief Executive Officer of SHE Media, a top 10 lifestyle, mission-driven media company. The company publishes lifestyle content that is curated from a community of creators and hand-picked publishers and flagship brands, SheKnows, BlogHer, STYLECASTER, and Soaps.

Skey launched SHE Media’s mission of advancing opportunity for women when she joined the company in 2013. Core to the mission is the belief that media companies can and should be a force for good in the world and a deep-seated commitment to diversity and inclusion in the media industry. 

SHE Media supports publishers and creators with the goal of helping them grow their businesses. The SHE Media Collective was launched in 2014 with a focus on supporting under-represented publishers and creators. The Collective now reaches an audience of 88M monthly unique visitors and contributes over $40MM annually to independent publishers, helping women and minority-lead businesses to scale both their profits and their social impact.

Over the past two years, the advertising industry has rallied around the idea of “Accountable Advertising”—supporting underserved communities, and funding high-quality content from diverse publishers, creators and agencies, all without sacrificing profits. Under Skey’s leadership in 2021, SHE Media launched the Meaningful Marketplace, which is comprised of premium publishers who self-identify as members of an affinity group. SHE Media’s Meaningful Marketplace provides an intentional path to drive advertising dollars to content creators within its Women-owned, Black-owned, Latinx-owned, AAPIowned, and LGBTQIA+-owned publishing communities, empowering advertisers to meet their commitments to Accountable Advertising and increase their investment in minority-owned media. Through Meaningful Marketplaces, advertisers can ensure these publishers receive the economic support to thrive and scale.

In addition, this year SHE Media is showcasing the power and scale of SHE Media Collective through the launch of endemic Collectives. SHE Media’s endemic Collectives bring together the most influential voices in key consumer categories such as Health & Wellness, Food, Entertainment, Parenting, Sustainability and more. Harnessing the endemic reach and meaningful relationships that these publishers have with their audiences, the endemic Collectives deliver elevated ad experiences, meaningful brand connections and unparalleled 1st party audience insights. Each Collective taps into the power of the PMC Atlas Data Studio to leverage 1st party data, yielding five times higher engagement than the competition. 

In March 2023, Samantha Skey led the launch of the Future of Health at SHE Media Co-Lab at SXSW. More than 2,000 attendees came to see our star-studded line-up of experts and thought leaders during the two-day Future of Health event. More than 50 speakers inspired and entertained the audience with unique perspectives, the latest science, and emotional storytelling around optimizing whole-life health. 

The Future of Health at SHE Media Co-Lab also served to introduce Flow: Science and Stories for WholeLife Health. This new platform provides content, community and commerce in service of women’s whole-life health. From pelvic health, brain health,the importance of self-advocacy, health access and more, Flow will explore biotechnology, product innovation and scientific advancements in women’s health.

Whole life health acknowledges that women are more than a sum of their reproductive parts. Women’s health has been historically underserved, with the majority of research investment focused on the male brain and body, ignoring female biology. Flow offers the latest science and most resonant stories to inform and empower women to advocate for their own wellbeing.

Samantha began her career in digital technology and media over 25 years ago at Interactive Imaginations, a gaming startup that went public in 1998. She held management roles with CNET, Disney, and Alloy Inc. Before joining SHE Media, Skey was Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer for clean tech innovator, RecycleBank. Skey serves on the board of directors for The Ad Council, the World Surf League and Acast, the number one podcasting platform in Europe. She serves on the advisory boards of Digital Ascendant, Fyllo Compliance Cloud, and The Bronx Academy of Letters. Skey holds a BA in comparative literature from Hamilton College where she now serves as chair for the Hamilton Career Network.
